Responsibilities and Qualifications


Develop and maintain customized Business Intelligence solutions that provide end-user access to data in a data warehouse, data mart or operational system. Participate as a member of a project development team to develop functional and technical specifications ensuring a comprehensive design, develop the solution, test of the solution, and provide on-going customer support. The Senior Business Objects Developer is both technical and business-minded at the same time, works on both business-driven and technology-driven assignments, and approaches development from a data-centric perspective.



  • Collects and understands information from source systems, processes, and subject matter experts in order to build effective business intelligence solutions
  • Understands the relationship between business objectives and the underlying data and business intelligence constructs that contribute to or provide a measurement of those objectives
  • Applies presentation and communication skills to convey findings from requirements gathering activities in a way that can be consumed and validated by diverse audiences
  • Develops functional requirements supporting analytics, translates to technical requirements, develops and maintains technical designs, specifications and other project artifacts
  • Develops effective Business Objects universes, reports, and dashboards
  • Responsible for unit, string, and system testing and assisting in development of UAT test plans
  • Analysis, maintenance and support of existing ETL processes
  • Pursues continuous improvement of data quality, standardization of data management processes, efficiency and quality of service
  • Develops expertise around tools and environment used for building technical solutions
  • Mentors Business Objects developers in best practices and ensures quality, correctness and completeness of their development as needed
  • Develops and delivers training programs to show co-workers how to leverage Business Objects and data access tools



Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:

Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or other quantitative field (or equivalent experience)
Experience: Five or more years experience in data warehousing, business intelligence, and Business Objects development

Other: Development experience in Business Objects 4.0 including Xcelcius, Explorer, and Webi Experience with Oracle DBMS, data modeling, and possesses strong SQL query skills Strong analytical skills Experience with software development life cycle methodologies Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail, organization and timeliness to meet customer service expectations Demonstrates effective problem solving and troubleshooting skills Demonstrates effective customer service


Preferred Education: Masters Degree in Business, Information Systems, or Healthcare Administration 
Preferred Other: Development experience in Cognos Knowledge of hospital and health care data GPO experience An understanding of contracting and customer agreements
