Responsibilities and Qualifications




The Clinical Resource manager provides clinical leadership and direction across ROi's membership and is focused on diagnostic imaging consumables, medical technology consultation and acquisition in supply chain management and contract implementation. This leadership position will involve direct interaction with account executives, account managers, department directors, operational vice presidents, physicians and vendors relating to clinical acceptability, cost, utilization and implementation of focused grouping of medical technology and devices. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.





  • Work collaboratively with ISS sourcing managers, directors, physicians, supervisors, department leadership and staff, vendors, suppliers, GPO and ROi member leadership groups so that clinical acceptance is maximized and optimal reductions are achieved in member institutions cost structure.
  • Chair ROi Service Line Committees that support optimization of standards and cost management opportunities with specific focus on medical technology and devices.
  • In conjunction with the ROi and ROi Supply Chain Service Lines, develop and optimize business practices to best utilize available resources and establish best of practice in utilization and cost management for diagnostic imaging consumables, along with medical technology and devices.
  • Collaborate and optimize relationship with Supply Chain and specialty clinical practice resource management staff across ROi membership to influence and optimize resources in supporting mission with goal of setting best practice standards and optimizing quality and cost management goals.
  • Utilizing communication skills, present to appropriate groups information related to opportunities, reporting, implementation, and post decision results to maximize results of cost management activities.
  • Actively work with vendors to develop strategic partnerships by researching and analyzing vendor product offerings, service capabilities and performance history. Work with vendors to detail product trails and their clinical, operational, and financial objectives.
  • Develop process and collaborative relationships with medical staff that optimizes clinical needs assessment and maximizes cost management opportunities.



  • Develop and maintain assessment of applicable medical products new technology review and communication process to enhance quality and provide structure for cost management overview of same.
  • Utilize member's MMIS and related technologies to provide analysis of areas which include but are not limited to vendor performance, cost savings tracking, and cost standard units in area of specialization, contract compliance, and contract enhancement profiling.
  • Assists members with identifying items for review in their individual MMIS and utilization data such as product redundancies and opportunities for consolidations.


Operational Efficiency

  • Build commitment to efficient processes within ROi Service line groups and internal and commercial members.
  • Provide timely and efficient communication to department leadership and key stakeholders regarding opportunities for product consolidation decisions, contract changes, new contracts and compliance opportunities.
  • Work with and establish critical communication and follow-up processes with key clinical stakeholders and leadership at member facilities.


General Functions

  • Systematically assess internal and external purchasing and utilization trends in an ongoing effort to refine the contract portfolio for diagnostic imaging consumables and medical technology product spend.
  • Actively listen and respond to organization stakeholders needs.
  • Promote economic discipline by facilitating and, if necessary, leading assigned member department staff in the identification, analysis and implementation of cost reduction opportunities for traditional medical technology products. these efforts focus on standardization of products (where applicable), reduced utilization of products and on implementing innovative technologies focused on streamlining work flow.
  • Lead the ROi Supply Chain Service Line(s), particularly the ROi Diagnostic Imaging Service Line team, in collecting data on product issues and developing resolutions; developing product specifications for new items; researching current products and specs; making product recommendations based on clinical and financial indications.
  • Collaborate with internal and commercial members' and leadership regarding: non-contracted medical technology requests and like items currently within their MMIS.
  • Review non-catalog purchases for potential consolidation opportunities.
  • Facilitate opportunities for standardization by providing financials and cross references; facilitation vendor/manufacturer and member communications, and facilitating the members' development of decision criteria for select product validations/evaluations as needed.

Education: Bachelor's degree in business, hospital administration, information technology, biomedical engineering or other related field. (or equivalency of 7 years of clinical experience)

Experience: 5 plus (5+) years of hands-on experience performing most of the duties listed. 
Other: Must be able to collaboratively lead and manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously. Strong professional public relation skills geared to any levels of an organization. Ability to effectively present complex solutions to all levels of clinical and non-clinical personnel. Ability to work in a team environment and with diverse groups of both clinical and non-clinical personnel. Strong computer literacy. Negotiation skills and experience with vendor relationships. Ability to travel 20% of the time.


Preferred Education: MBA, MHA, or related business area. 
Preferred Experience: Clinical background, Rn or RT with experience in computer science or related technology preferred.
