Provides clinical leadership and direction across all ROi member organizations on selection and management of all Pharmacy products and services with a focus on physician preference item utilization. Leadership will involve direct interaction with key stakeholders for Pharmacy related to clinical acceptability, costs and utilization, particularly in surgery, cardiac cath labs, GI endoscopy labs and interventional radiology labs.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

1 PARTNERSHIP (Service Line Leadership)Develop clinical and business relationships

that move away from traditional methodologies and sets new standard for collaboration

and consolidation of focus to quality and cost management of products and practices

within the Clinical Services area.

Work collaboratively with Clinical Services team, co-workers, key stakeholders,

supervisors, department leadership and staff, vendors, suppliers, strategic sourcing

managers, and customer leadership groups so that clinical acceptance is maximized

and optimal reductions are achieved in ROi members' cost structure.

Develop and optimize business practices with other Integrated Sourcing Solutions

team members to best utilize available resources and establish best of practice in

contracting and cost management for Mercy/ROi service line team categories of

Clinical Services.

Collaborate and optimize relationship with facility leadership across ROi's members to

influence and optimize resources in supporting mission with goal of setting best of

practice standards and optimizing quality and cost management goals.

Chair or sponsor AD HOC Committees that support optimization of standards and cost

management opportunities with specific focus on service line team categories specific

to Clinical Services products.

Utilizing communication skills, present to appropriate groups information related to

opportunities, reporting, implementation, and post decision outcomes to maximize

results of cost management activities.

Actively work with vendors to develop strategic partnerships by researching and

analyzing vendor product offerings, service capabilities and performance history.

Develop process and collaborative relationships with Clinical Services key

stakeholders that optimizes clinical, operational and financial needs assessment and

maximizes cost management opportunities for the facility and ultimately across all ROi

member entities.

Actively lead both clinical and non-clinical staff to support the clinical, operational, and

financial optimization consulting and utilization enhancement offerings of ROi.

Oversight of the designated ROI service line team(s) management directing product

consolidation and standardization of practice opportunities.

3 OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCYBuild commitment to efficient processes within service

line teams and other key stakeholders.

Assist to provide timely and efficient communication to all departments regarding

direction of product consolidation decisions, contract changes, new contracts and

compliance opportunities.

Coordinate customer departments with ROi programs and global customer initiatives

and establishes best of practice processes that enhance relationships.

Work with and establish critical communication and follow-up processes with key


4 GENERAL FUNCTIONSSystematically assess internal and external purchasing trends

in an ongoing effort to refine ROis contract portfolio. Actively listen and respond to

organization stakeholders needs in these areas.

Promote economic discipline by facilitating and, if necessary, leading service line

teams in the identification, analysis and implementation of cost reduction opportunities

for Clinical Services categories of clinical commodity, high preference, and high cost /

high preference products & services. These efforts focus on standardization of

products, clinically appropriate utilization of products & services, and implementing

innovative technologies focused on streamlining workflow.

With rationalized input and direction from all participating ROi members, clinical and

administrative leadership, develop a system-wide formulary of products specific to the

area of specialty. These efforts must optimally leverage the buying power of all ROi


Maximize cost avoidance opportunities through effective vendor negotiations in concert

with the Clinical Services strategic sourcing teams, and comprehensive use of external

and internal information databases and ongoing identification of new strategies

reported in various trade journals and publications.

Work collaboratively with other members of the Integrated Sourcing Solutions team to

maximize contract compliance and product consolidation.

Collaboratively develop local or system agreements that fill gaps in ROis contract


5 Pharmacy formulary development and management

6 Lead GPO pharmacy implementation and support member pharmacy distribution

  • Education: PharmD
  • Experience: Strong knowledge of Pharmacy Supply Chain functions such as Hospital, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) and/or Pharmacy Wholesale Distribution. Experience leading teams through change and consensus-building
  • Other skills & knowledge:
  • -Ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
  • -Strong professional public relation skills at all levels and ability to effectively present complex solutions to all levels of clinical and non-clinical personnel.
  • -Ability to work in a team environment and with diverse groups of both clinical and non-clinical personnel.
  • -Strong computer literacy/savvy.
  • -Negotiation skills and experience with products, services and materials management techniques related to perioperative service environment.
  • -Ability to analyze complex operational and financial scenarios to render solutions that meet the customers desired outcomes.
  • -Ability to travel 60% of the time.
  • Preferred Licensure: Active Pharmacist License
  • Preferred Certification/Registration: Board Certification, Completion of ASHP Accredited Pharmacy Residency
  • Preferred Experience: Acute Care
