    Oversee and provide strategic direction for Mercy’s Specialty Pharmacy function to meet clinical/quality, financial, regulatory and operational goals. Collaborate and coordinate the activities of Specialty pharmacy coworkers and leaders across the Ministry to develop, maintain and monitor compliance with consistent pharmacy operating procedures and practices. Collaborates with Mercy's strategic planning/growth functions to broaden geographic presence and identify growth opportunities for Specialty Pharmacy Services.  Ensures compliance with rules and regulations that pertain to the targeted populations.

    Responsibilities and Qualifications

    Leadership and Management:

    1. Develops, implements, and maintains Mercy Specialty & Infusion Pharmacy policies and procedures in collaboration with other pharmacy managers.
    2. Coordinates and provides oversight to facility/community Pharmacy leaders to most efficiently serve our patients and customers
    3. Encourages staff involvement in activities that contribute to Ministry vision and Values
    4. Demonstrates a management style that emphasizes fairness, respect, and sensitivity to others and considers the common good as well as individual desires.
    5. Establishes and monitors clinical practice and documentation standards of practice for services and areas of responsibility.

     

    Human Resources Management:

    1. Utilizes and follows Mercy hiring practices. Develops job descriptions and standards of performance for all positions.
    2. Recognizes unacceptable performance, coaches individuals, develops performance improvement plan, and counsels as appropriate.
    3. Maintains appropriate documentation of all performances and conducts timely performance reviews
    4. Facilitates conflict resolution between parties or groups.
    5. Maintains confidentiality of patient and Mercy information.

     

    Planning and Goal Management:

    1. Plans for new services or changes/improvements in services.
    2. Sets goals based on organizational mission and vision
    3. Encourages staff involvement in goal setting/decision making process.
    4. Collaborates with Marketing, Business Development and other applicable leadership and staff around education and marketing of Specialty Pharmacy Services to appropriate Medical/Surgical providers and staff.

     

    Operations Management:

    1. Manages all Specialty pharmacy functions in order to meet clinical standards, licensing, accreditation and other regulatory requirements.
    2. Evaluates manpower needs and assigns staff for maximum efficiency
    3. Communicates with staff one on one or in groups and shares information in departments and serves as a role model for staff.
    4. Promotes team effort toward providing quality care for patients served.
    5. Encourages creativity and innovation in staff and collaboration within and among team members.
    6. Coordinates narcotic issues internally and throughout the pharmacy managers/staff.
    7. Schedules assignments, holidays, and vacations for pharmacy staff with acceptable staffing.
    8. Follows up on SAFE/Quality Improvement Reports.
    9. Arranges, implements and/or manages PBM/insurance agreements
    10. Collaborate with ROi/supply chain stakeholders on procurement and contracting functions.

     

    Fiscal Management:

    1. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the planning and utilization of resources.
    2. Utilizes financial reports in monitoring day to day budget expenses and forecasting fiscal process.
    3. Collaborates with Ministry, Finance, Pharmacy leaders in preparing yearly operational and capital budgets.

     

    Clinical Practice / Quality Management:

    1. Actively promotes, through education, monitoring, and recommendations, drug use practices consistent with established guidelines.
    2. Uses quality improvement tools and techniques to determine changes required to minimize errors and improve quality of output.
    3. Optimizes the use of data and analytics of available technologies to monitor and manage specialty pharmacy medications.
    4. Maintains good relationships with nursing and medical staffs and conducts professional practice.
    5. Serves on local, regional and Ministry committees/councils as requested.
    6. Participates in formal (university, school of nursing, etc.) and informal (ad hoc, invitational, etc.) educational programs for professional and lay persons.
    7. Supports the professional development/education initiatives of Mercy by presenting inservices and lectures to staff.
    8. Attends conferences, workshops, and maintains licensure requirements
    9. Follows confidentiality policies & procedures
    10. Coordinates with local leaders, physician leader, Human Resource staff if immediate action must be taken.
    11. Participates in quality assurance activities including documenting problems and recommending resolutions.
    12. Is well informed of current Ministry, regional and local policies and procedures.
    13. Maintains compliance with standards of regulatory and licensing agencies (i.e. The Joint Commission and other accreditation/regulatory bodies).

    • Required Education: Registered Pharmacist (Advanced degree preferred);

    • Required Licensure: State licensure (Missouri) as per clinical background

    • Required Experience: Strong clinical practice experience in targeted population required.

    • Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Commensurate with advanced clinical pharmacy or nursing training.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    • Preferred Experience: 7-10 years of progressive healthcare leadership
